Africa's powerful scavenger and hunter
The Spotted Hyena is one of Africa's most misunderstood predators. Exceptionally intelligent and equipped with powerful jaws, it is both an accomplished hunter and an opportunistic scavenger.
A mature animal stands approximately 3 feet at the shoulder and can weigh around 120–175 lbs.
Their social lives are complex, with large clans often dominated by females.
Hunting the Spotted Hyena
Finding a mature hyena requires patience and an understanding of its movements. These powerful animals are most active during the cooler hours and after dark.
A close encounter with a spotted hyena is an unforgettable reminder of the diversity of Africa's predators.
