Your Hunt. Your Safari.
FROM THE OPEN PLAINS OF THE KALAHARI TO THE RUGGED MOUNTAINS AND REMOTE WILDERNESS OF AFRICA.
At Schalk Pienaar Safaris, we believe a hunting safari should be built around the hunter—not the other way around.
Every hunter arrives in Africa with a different idea of what makes a great safari. For some, it is the challenge of pursuing a particular trophy. For others, it is walking for miles through wild country, sitting quietly around a campfire, or simply experiencing Africa with good friends.
Whatever brings you here, we take the time to understand what you are looking for and build the safari around you.
Our home is Namibia, and this is where our story begins. But over the years, our hunting has taken us across a remarkable variety of landscapes and hunting environments, from the red sands of the Kalahari to the rugged Khomas Highlands and the remote wilderness of the Caprivi.
Through carefully selected partnerships, we also offer exceptional hunting opportunities in Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Tanzania, Cameroon and other African destinations.
Wherever you hunt with us, the philosophy remains the same: personal service, fair chase, ethical hunting and an authentic African experience.
Wingshooting
The excitement of african wingshooting
Not every safari has to revolve around a trophy animal.
For those who enjoy the fast pace and excitement of wingshooting, Namibia offers some outstanding opportunities. One of our particular favourites is sandgrouse shooting, with Namaqua and Burchell’s sandgrouse providing an exciting and challenging day in the field.
After leaving their roosts at first light, the sandgrouse spend the morning feeding across the Kalahari. Around three hours after sunrise, they begin making their way to water, often arriving in a sudden rush of wings.
Positioning yourself along their flight path and waiting for the birds to come in makes for an exhilarating form of wingshooting. The speed of the birds and the unpredictability of each flight make every shot a challenge.
It is fast, exciting and wonderfully social—and a fantastic way to experience another side of African hunting. Sandgrouse shooting can also be combined with a plains-game safari, giving hunters the opportunity to enjoy both big-game hunting and some of Namibia’s finest wingshooting during the same stay.
Kalahari plains game
Red sand. Open country. Classic African hunting.
Our home ranch lies on the western edge of the Kalahari: 31,000 acres of red sand and open country, teeming with over 30 plains game species.
Our Kalahari Hunting Camp sits right in the heart of it.
Khomas highlands
Rugged country. Challenging stalks. Leopard.
The Khomas Highlands offer a completely different hunting experience.
Rugged mountains, valleys and rocky ridges create a spectacular environment where hunting can be physically demanding and exceptionally rewarding. The area supports abundant natural wildlife populations, including the iconic Hartmann’s mountain zebra, endemic to Namibia.
The Khomas Highlands are also where we conduct most of our leopard hunts.
Leopard hunting is a specialised pursuit requiring patience, preparation and an intimate knowledge of the area. Our experience in the region and our understanding of its leopard population have resulted in a very high success rate.
For the hunter who enjoys a genuine challenge, the Khomas Highlands offer some of Namibia’s most exciting hunting.
Dangerous game
Into the wild caprivi.
For hunters looking for the excitement of dangerous game, we offer hunting opportunities in the Caprivi.
This is a very different Africa. The dry landscapes of central and southern Namibia give way to river systems, woodland and thicker wilderness. The Caprivi is home to some of Africa’s most iconic dangerous game and offers the opportunity to hunt in an environment where every day in the field feels like a genuine adventure.
Whether pursuing a specific dangerous-game species or combining dangerous game with plains game, these safaris are planned carefully around the hunter’s objectives and the time available.
More of Africa
Beyond Namibia
Although Namibia will always be home, our hunting experiences do not stop at its borders.
Over many years, we have built relationships with a select group of professional hunters and outfitters across Africa. These are not simply commercial partnerships—we choose people we know and trust, whose approach to hunting, conservation and client care reflects our own.
Through these relationships, we can arrange carefully selected hunting safaris in:
Botswana · Zambia · Zimbabwe · Mozambique · Tanzania · Cameroon · and other African destinations
Each country offers something different. From the great wilderness areas of southern Africa to the forests and unique game of Central Africa, we can help you choose an experience that matches exactly what you are looking for.
We don’t aim to offer hunting everywhere.
We aim to offer the right hunt, with the right people, in the right place.
Combination Safaris
Experience more than one side Of Africa
One of the great advantages of hunting with SP Safaris is that your safari does not have to be limited to one area or one type of hunting.
A safari can be designed around several different experiences.
You might begin in the Kalahari, hunting plains game among the red dunes and thornveld, before moving into the Khomas Highlands for mountain game or leopard. Or you may combine a hunting safari with wingshooting, allowing you to experience a completely different side of African hunting.
We can also build longer itineraries around hunting in different countries, working with our trusted partners to create a truly diverse African adventure.
The possibilities are extensive.
The important thing is that the safari remains your safari.
The Way We Hunt
The trophy is only part of the story.
We believe a hunting safari should be built around the hunter, not the other way around. Every safari is privately guided by a licensed Professional Hunter with experienced trackers and skinners.
Wherever you hunt with us, the philosophy remains the same: personal service, fair chase, ethical hunting and an authentic African experience.
