The jet-black aristocrat
Few antelope are as visually impressive as the Sable. With its powerful build, jet-black coat, white facial markings and dramatic sweeping horns, a mature bull is an unforgettable sight.
A mature bull stands around 4½–5 feet at the shoulder and can weigh 450–550 lbs. Exceptional bulls can carry horns exceeding 40 inches.
Hunting the Sable
Sable hunting is about patience and trophy judgement. Bulls often move through woodland and tall grass where their impressive size can be surprisingly difficult to appreciate.
Finding an old bull with heavy, well-developed horns is a special experience and one that demands careful field observation.
