Papio ursinus
Weight 12–40 kg (26–88 lbs)
Length 51–100 cm (20–39 inches)
Height 60–72 cm (24–28 inches)
Intelligent, wary and surprisingly challenging
The Chacma Baboon is one of southern Africa's most adaptable animals. Highly intelligent and living in complex social groups, baboons are constantly alert to danger.
A large male can stand approximately 2½ feet at the shoulder and weigh around 60–80 lbs.
Hunting the Baboon
A baboon hunt is primarily a test of patience and observation. Their excellent eyesight and social behaviour make getting a clean opportunity challenging.
For hunters who enjoy a different kind of challenge, pursuing a mature male can be surprisingly rewarding.
